World War II was the greatest war of the Twentieth Century. It pitted the Axis powers of Germany, Italy and Japan against the Allies predominantly made up of British, American, Russian and Canadian forces.
A key change in warfare was the mass use of aircraft. The Nazis used planes in their Blitzkrieg style of warfare while the British Spitfires were instrumental in defending Britain's skies.

Operation Husky was the invasion of southern europe through Sicily. The Canadians sent their first division to fight alongside British and Amercian forces. Canadians in Italy achieved many great victories that are remembered today.
As a last ditch effort to break the Germans in Italy, the Canadians led the attack on the Gothic Line. Poor scouting and harsh terrain resulted in a punishing battle for the Canadians and an eventual stalemate.
